Congratulations to Dr Oliver Lopez, the first PhD graduate from the KAUST HALO group, who graduated with his PhD in Environmental Sciences and Engineering. Although Oliver successfully defended his thesis early in 2018, the official ceremony was not until December. Oliver's research was focused on "Monitoring arid-land groundwater abstraction through optimization of a land surface model with remote sensing-based evaporation", and he has been continuing in this area, working on a collaborative project with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture to map and monitor agricultural water use and groundwater abstractions throughout the Kingdom.
